Marvel Cinematic Universe is on phase 3 now, and since all their movies are successful( more or less) we can get movies like Guardians of the Galaxy(2014) and now Doctor Strange.
Perfectly casted, originally told story which is more likely similar with Iron Man's story, but it is just a coincidence. Benedict Cumberbatch is a terrific actor and he perfectly fits in playing these types of characters: selfish, charming, smart and brilliant.
Tilda Swinton surprisingly is a good fit for the Ancient One, Chiwetel Ejiofor is good, Wong is good and Mads Mikkelsen is good. They all do their best playing these characters, which benefits the movie.
The movie by the tone is a typical Marvel film. With humor, action, it has family friendly vibe, and it's just a well put together movie. Very familiar with this universe.
The whole issue with this movie is not the story or characters - it's a great storytelling, but it felt to rapid and of cause there where no time to focus a bit longer on some aspects, but overall it felt too quick, definitely there are parts, like exploring and studying magic, that must be longer.
Actually this is the only issue, even the villain didn't look useless. Scott Derrickson, who is known for successful horror movies, brings a great half comedic half tough comic book adaptation, which impresses by it's boldness.
And also. The special effects are something special. Boldness is also hidden in using all these weird magic tricks with dimensions and reality changes. Ten years ago it would be garbage for it's weirdness, but now we say:- "It's Marvel and they kick some ass with their decisions".
