Weekend Box-Office Report (Week 02/03- 05/02 2017)

According to Box Office Mojo Split goes absolutely great, wining it's third weekend in a row, this time over "Rings", which debuted on the second spot. This new M. Night Shyamalan movie beats every expectation and becomes the most unexpected hit of the year. With the budget of 9 million it already cracked almost a hundred in the domestic box office and leading towards 150 million worldwide. It is definitely the last time when we see Split on the first spot, due to 'LEGO Batman' and 'John Wick' coming out on February 10th. 'Rings' did well, it cost $ 25 M. to make and made $ 13M. on it's opening weekend, finishing on the second spot after 'Split'. On the third place is 'A Dog's Purpose' with $ 10,8M, taking strongly Sunday's first spot. This movie is doing pretty well. It cost $ 22M and already grossed $ 42,5 worldwide. Then on the fourth place it is Hidden Figures with $ 10,1M. This movie is an another surprise hit, already made $ 120M domestically and $ 122M worldwide, it is a huge success, considering that it cost only $ 25M to make. And the last fifth spot is taken by La La Land with $ 7,5M. The Oscar buzz is not decreasing and the main contender for the main award is still very strong at the box office.
1. Split (Universal) - $ 14,6 M ($ 98,8M domestic total; $ 142,8M worldwide total)

2. Rings (Paramount) - $ 13M ($ 13M domestic total; $ 28,2M worldwide total)

3. A Dog's Purpose (Universal) - $ 10,8M ($ 33M domestic total; $ 42,5M worldwide total)

4. Hidden Figures (Fox) - $ 10,1M ($ 120M domestic total; $ 122M worldwide total)

5. La La Land (Lionsgate/Summit)  - $ 7,5M ($ 118,3M domestic total; $ 268,3M worldwide total)

"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" didn't do well for it's second weekend and grossed only $ 4,5M, but overall it had a solid opening weekend, which brought $ 13,6M. Now it is on almost $ 22M domestically and nice $ 117,5 worldwide total with the budget of $ 40M.

Another movie that had some of my attention was "The Comedian" with Robert De Niro, but it didn't do well ($ 1,1M) just like another opening weekend result for 'Space Between Us'. Teenage action & adventure drama just made $ 3,8M and cost $ 30M to make, so, overall, already clear, that it is a big flop.
